1.7 TAKEHARU (竹治) SHAKUHACHI FOR SALE (Eb)
This is a 1.7 length shakuhachi, tuned in Eb, by the workshop Takeharu (竹治), which has been producing shakuhachi since the 1970s. Takeharu's output is mostly solid working instruments with the occasional really good one, and this is one of the really good ones. It has a kinko-style utaguchi, a sterling silver nakatsugi joint, and plays clear and loud across all octaves. A solid, professional instrument, perhaps one for the jazz enthusiast.

DESCRIPTION
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION
This is a modern jiari shakuhachi with black urushi lacquer on the inside of the bore. It comes in two pieces with a sterling silver nakatsugi joint and a kinko-style utaguchi. There is very light mottling at the lower end and the root end nodes have been polished and remain completely intact. It has had no cracks and no repairs, and looks beautiful on the outside. The bore is intact with no cracks and is smooth as a billiard table.
It is made by the Takeharu (竹治) workshop, based in Kawaguchi, Saitama, just outside Tokyo, producing shakuhachi since the 1970s. Their reputation is for mostly OK instruments with the occasional genuinely good one, and this 1.7 is above their average, a very good instrument overall.
A black leather utaguchi cover is included, and the shakuhachi will be wrapped in a thick polyester bag for moisture control. If you'd like a cotton bag as well, get in touch for details on what's currently available.
SOUND
It has a bright otsu-no-ro, typical of modern jiari instruments, with a clear tone throughout, playing in tune across both registers and managing dai-kan fairly easily. Well suited to min'yo and contemporary music as much as honkyoku.

I package instruments very carefully and ship within 2 to 3 working days using UPS International or an equivalent service, tracked and insured against damage or loss for the full value of your purchase.
I'll need your delivery address to calculate shipping costs accurately. Roughly, the rates are:

- Worldwide (most places outside the EU): £50
Once we've agreed a sale, I'll send a secure online invoice payable by debit or credit card or bank transfer. A PayPal payment link is also possible, though this carries a small additional charge (1.5% of the total price) to cover PayPal's transaction fees.
The shakuhachi ships from London, UK. If your country has a customs agreement with the UK, you may need to pay import charges on arrival; I have no control over these, but you can get an estimate from a calculator such as simplyduty.com. I'll provide all the paperwork needed to keep this process smooth. Collection from London, or at an event, is also possible.
I've shipped shakuhachi internationally since 2018.
RETURNS
Returns are accepted within 14 days of purchase. The buyer pays for return shipping, which must be tracked and insured against damage or loss. Once the shakuhachi is received back in the same condition it was sent, the refund is processed to the original payment method.
